In late 2011, the Wiper Democratic Movement Kenya (WDM-K) took a deliberate Strategic decision to re-brand in readiness for the 2013 general elections. It was during this time that the Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) unanimously adopted the new Party name Wiper Democratic Movement Kenya (WDM-K), an umbrella as the new party symbol and sky blue as the dominant party color.
During the run up to the 2013 general elections, WDMK teamed up with the Orange Democratic Movement Kenya (ODM) and Ford Kenya and formed the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) on which they contested the general elections.
After the 2013 general election, the party managed to get 6 Senators, 5 Governors, 5 Deputy Governors, 5Women Representatives 17 MPs and 122 Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).
In April 2015, the party held a special delegates congress (SDC) at the Bomas of Kenya, which was attended by 1,500 delegates drawn from 45 of the 47 Counties. The main objective of the SDC was adopt the new Party Constitution which had been aligned to the Country’s 2010 Constitution and also endorse the new party national leadership nominated by the party’s National Executive Council earlier in the year.
