WDMP-K was rebranded, its name, colours and party symbol from the Orange Democratic Movement Kenya (ODM-K) towards the end of 2011 in readiness for the 2013 general elections. The party had been formed mid-August 2007, fielded a presidential candidate in the 2007 general elections and went on to garner close to one million votes. After the 2007 general elections, the party teamed up with the Party of National Unity (PNU) to form a coalition government with Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka (the Party Leader) taking the Vice Presidency of the Country. Following the signing of the national accord in early 2008, PNU and ODM-K were joined by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), upon which the Grant Coalition Government was formed, with the ODM Party Leaders taking the premiership of the Country.
